 EZPM

The 5th European Zebrafish Principal Investigators Meeting brings together principal investigators working at the forefront of zebrafish research.

The many plenary symposia of general interest and the specialised workshops provide unique opportunities for discussions, networking and creative thinking. Let’s grab this opportunity to highlight recent discoveries, provide perspectives to our community and establish strategic actions to advance science and promote funding.

EZPM 2018 is co-organized by the CIBIO-Centre for Integrative Biology of the University of Trento and the European Society for Fish Models in Biology and Medicine and is set in the beautiful surroundings of the Dolomites, providing an idyllic environment to combine mental stimulation and nature exploration.

The Meeting will take place in Trento (Italy), March 20 to 23, 2018.

Centre for Integrative Biology (CIBIO)

CIBIO, founded in 2007, is a cutting-edge and top-ranked academic biomedicine institute within the University of Trento, organised as a hybrid research centre/university department, taking the best from either model.

The Centre has recently grown to 32 Research Laboratories headed by international independent Principal Investigators, and it is at the top of rankings for quality of the research among National academic institutes in the area of Biological Sciences (ANVUR 2011-2014).

Research at CIBIO is focused on four major research programs:

  • cancer biology and genomics
  • cell and molecular biology
  • microbiology and synthetic biology
  • neurobiology and development

The PIs pursue their goals in the frame of a holistic view of basic biological processes and of their derangement in disease, trying to establish a double edge model to biomedical research, in which basic science co-exists with translational approaches.

CIBIO provides a high level of research services and Core Facilities, operated by highly skilled staff scientists, with all the state-of-the-art equipment and tools necessary in supporting Labs biomedical research projects to be carried out with the required level of technological sophistication.

European Society for Fish Models in Biology and Medicine (EuFishBioMed) - membership application

EuFishBioMed is a network devoted to fostering exchange of information, techniques, materials and expertise within and beyond the fish community. We are dedicated to promoting the further development of the technologies and versatilities of fish models in biomedical research and to make these accessible to other users, such as the medical, pharmaceutical and industrial communities.

Currently more than 360 Europe-based research groups are linked by this network. Travel Information

How to reach Trento:

By plane

The closest airports to Trento are:

  • Verona Catullo (90 km): this airport is the best option to reach Trento, having direct flight connections with some of the main European airports. Once in Verona, the "Verona Porta Nuova" railway station can be reached by taxi or by shuttle bus (Aerobus). Shuttle buses are generally available every 20 minutes (trip duration: about 15 minutes). For more information on the Aerobus shuttle please visit the airport website. From the "Verona Porta Nuova" railway station take the train to reach Trento. The travel by train from "Verona Porta Nuova" to Trento takes about 1 hour
  • Venezia Marco Polo (195 km): this airport is farther from Trento, but it offers a larger number of possible connections. Once landed in Venice, you can reach the "Venezia Mestre" railway station by taxi or by shuttle bus (Fly bus express service). Shuttle buses are generally available every 20 minutes (trip duration: about 17 minutes). For more information on the Fly bus please visit the ATVO website. From the "Venezia Mestre" railway station take the train to reach Trento. Please note that the travel by train from "Venezia Mestre" to Trento takes about 2.5 hours
  • Milano Malpensa (300 km): from this airport take the Malpensa Express train into Milano, Stazione Nord. Once there, take subway line 2 (green line) to reach the Milano Centrale Train Station. Then, from the Milano Centrale Train Station, to reach Trento take the train. Please note that the travel by train from Milano to Trento takes about 3 hours
  • Milano Linate (245 km): this airport is just 7 km from the Milano city centre and can be easily reached with various airport bus lines and with ATM lines 73 and X73 in about 25 minutes. Also the taxi can be considered. Please note that the travel by train from Milano to Trento takes about 3 hours
  • Bergamo Orio al Serio (185 km): this airport is a basis for many low-cost flights. The airport is easily reachable by bus from Bergamo, Milano and Brescia. To reach Trento by train, you may take the ATB service, which, in only 10 minutes, will bring you to Bergamo railway station

By train

There are two main lines that reach Trento:

  • the Brennero line (from Rome to Innsbruck through Verona)
  • the Valsugana line (from Venice to Trento)

If you reach Italy by plane and you land in Verona, there are frequent direct connections between the railway station "Verona Porta Nuova" to Trento. If instead you land in Venice or Milan, in most cases you have to change train in "Verona Porta Nuova".

Please consider that, even though there are some direct connections from the railway station "Venezia Mestre" to Trento, it is usually faster to take a train to Verona and then from Verona to Trento.

About train tickets: train tickets can be purchased on line or directly at the railway station (there are some ticket booths and some ticket vending machines available at the entrance of the station). If you buy the ticket at the railway station, it could be necessary to stamp it using the yellow machines available at the platform (binario) entrance before getting on the train. In buying your ticket you should specify the arrival station (Trento), the train you are planning to take. Indeed, "Intercity" trains, called "Frecce" (Frecciarossa, Frecciargento, Frecciabianca), are faster but require a supplement with respect to regionale train. You are also asked to specify the coach class: first (prima) or second (seconda) class. First class is more comfortable and about 60% more expensive.
Please note that there could be no trains during night, so be prepared to spend one night close to the airport in case your flight arrives later than the last train of the day.

For further information on train connections, timetable and tickets, please visit the Trenitalia website

By car or coach

  • If you are reaching Trento from the north, exit the A22 motorway at TRENTO NORD and go towards the Trento city center
  • If you are reaching Trento from the south, exit the A22 motorway at TRENTO SUD and go towards the Trento city center
  • Please note that trip advisors may still suggest: TRENTO CENTRO as A22 motorway, but this is closed

About Trento

The city of Trento: the unique charm of a renaissance alpine city, where history is art.

Trento is a city rooted in art and history, where the Italian and Mitteleuropean cultures meet. Unique amongst the alpine cities, the City of the Council (1545 - 1563) still keeps its precious monuments as tokens of its rich artistic and historic heritage. Built in the elegant renaissance style, they have been enhanced by recent refurbishing works.

Special mention goes to the Castello del Buonconsiglio, the Castle for several centuries residence of the Prince-Bishops of Trento; the Duomo, the Cathedral of Trento dedicated to San Vigilio, its gorgeous piazza and fountain dedicated to Neptune, the frescoed houses and Council churches as well as the museums and exhibitions which make the city of Trento a true landmark of alpine arts, culture and traditions.

Castello del Buonconsiglio (Buonconsiglio Castle)

The Castello del Buonconsiglio is the largest and most important monumental complex of the Trentino Alto Adige region.

It was the residence of the Principi Vescovi (Prince-Bishops) of Trento from the 13th century to the end of the 18th century, and is composed of a series of buildings of different eras, enclosed by walls and positioned slightly higher than the city.

Duomo di Trento (Cathedral of Trento)

Trento’s Cathedral is dedicated to Saint Vigil and has ancient origins.

There are in fact records that indicate the first church was built on the burial ground of this saint, martyred in the fifth century. It was then enlarged, whilst its present appearance is owed to Bishop Federico Vanga, who entrusted the redesigning of the cathedral to Adam d’Argogno in 1212. The position of the church is the result of his plan.

The construction, continued over the centuries by d’Arogno’s descendants, underwent various changes with respect to the original project due both to the churches needs and the changes in construction techniques. The contrast between the Romanesque style and the height of the vaults recalling gothic cathedrals is extraordinary. Two climbing staircases built into the lateral walls lead up to the two bell towers, in the opposite direction to the altar.

Other attractions:

Trento offers visitors its richly historical and artistic heritage all year around. Visitors can admire its beauties while strolling around the city centre’s alleys, enjoying shopping or visiting the city’s museums:
