10th Optoelectronics and Photonics Winter School NLP2019

The University of Trento, the Nanoscience Laboratory, and The University of Rome La Sapienza organize the 10th edition of the classical Optoelectronics and Photonics Winter school.

The school aims to bring together a large number of PhD students and young researchers from all parts of the world who during a one-week intense schedule, follow a series of lectures on selected topics. The lectures are held by internationally recognized experts in the field. At the same time, the students are encouraged to enjoy the beautiful location where the school is organized. To this end a large lunch break is considered to allow skiing and relaxing on the mountains or at the hotel facilities.

This year the school introduces students and post-docs to the concepts of nonlinear photonics, focusing on the hot topics that are driving the technological and scientific research. The target audience is PhD students and young researchers, who will have the opportunity to attend the lectures given by scientists leading of the nonlinear optics community.

The school will initially introduce the general concepts of nonlinear optics, with particular attention to the fiber and integrated optics platforms (both III-V and silicon). Then the lectures will focus on the main applications and fundamental research involving nonlinear optical processes (optical soliton and supercontinuum physics, frequency combs, parametric sources of quantum light for quantum photonics, wavelength conversion, distributed optical sensors, optical imaging, attosecond physics).

Informal events will be organized in order to help the networking between researchers and students. We will enjoy the beautiful surrounding during the free times with few organized events.

In addition to standard classes, rump evening sessions on hot topics in the field with free beers and beverages will be organized to facilitate discussions among students and lecturers.

Since this is a residential school, both the students and the lecturers will reside in the same hotel which will easy discussions in an informal venue or on the ski fields.

POSTER INFORMATION

During the school, a poster session to stimulate discussions and networking will take place.

The description of current activity of the students is encouraged.

While it is mandatory to submit an abstract to nlp2019@unitn.it at the registration time, it will not undergo any review process and it will be accepted as it is.

The abstract should contain a Title, Author(s) list and Affiliation and the text of max 250 words.

The poster format should be A0 or A1.

A prize for the best poster is offered by OSA.
During the interactive poster session, the School Directors will select the best poster. The posters and their presentation will be evaluated on the base of the quality, importance and relevance of the research  and on the quality of the presentation (both poster as well as discussion). The winner will receive 500 dollars and yearly free membership to OSA thanks to the Optical Society (OSA) sponsorship. OSA, through publications, events and services, is helping to advance the science of light by addressing the ongoing need for shared knowledge and innovation

RESEARCH TOPIC ON NONLINEAR PHOTONICS

The special Research Topics  on Nonlinear Photonics are open within the Section Optics and Photonics  of Frontiers in Physics or Frontiers in Materials. Here you will find all the information to submit your paper. Note that Frontiers in Physics is an online open access journal. There is a fee to publish in this journal and there is also a significant fee waiver program to allow everyone to publish their paper if accepted.

Participants to the school are encouraged to submit a manuscript about their poster to this Research Topics since together with the review papers or the original contributions of the lecturers will become an ebook on nonlinear photonics. We foresee a very valued and high impact ebook!

REGISTRATION
